The need for a camp for the youth of Labrador was first identified in 1968 at a ministerial conference in Happy Valley. The current site was chosen and Operation Beaver, an Ontario based volunteer youth construction organization, came in July 1969 to clear the land and begin building the fort-like set of buildings. US Air Force Chapel and Engineering Squadron assisted with donations of building materials and personnel; most of the outside work on buildings was completed by that fall.

Work continued on the camp for the next two years, and by July 1, 1971 the Labrador Christian Youth Camp building committee handed the camp and its contents over to the Lake Melville Ministerial Association in order to promote and to run Christian youth camps. Over the next number of years groups such as boy scouts, girl guides, boys' clubs and brownies used the facilities. Interest and attendance ebbed and flowed during this time.

Two large log bunkhouses (in the late 1980s) and a new lodge/dining hall (1995) were constructed to replace the older buildings. Three new insulated cabins were begun in 2000. In 2004 a water storage system was installed in the lodge. Water was hauled and stored under the building, providing groups with running water in the kitchen and washrooms. The facilities have continued to be improved with the addition of a sand volleyball court, a parking lot and a playground area. A well was drilled in November 2007.

In 2003, Mennonite Central Committee partnered with the camp to provide voluntary service workers to work as camp directors. Peter and Irene Ascough were the first to serve in this position until 2006. They started the summer camp program with 40 children and three weeks of camp. In September 2006, Vicky & Derek Martin became the camp directors and provided leadership until 2008.

Over the past few years the programs have grown to include canoe trips as well as traditional camps and annual enrollment is over 100 campers. Currently the camp is overseen by the Labrador Christian Youth Camp Committee which is responsible to the Lake Melville Ministerial Associaiton.
